The
Gulf Coast Green Symposium and the Houston Green Expo is proud to present an Interactive art installation at ReliantParkCenter
by ¡The Alter Girls!entitled “Trash:
Our Kids!”
Accessible by
MetroRail, the art installation will emphasize the importance of personal
choices in relation to sustainability and communities where our children
play and learn.
The public is
encouraged to bring one item of
clean recyclable trash to be recycled at the end of the event. Please,
no glass or large items.
Those who bring an
item can participate in the installation. The Houston Green Expo is free
and open to the public. The Expo educates the public about a variety of
ways to “go green” and save money and resources.
¡The Alter Girls! are Alicia Duplan and John Linden. The artists live and work in the
Heights, incorporating found objects and other landfill-bound materials in much
of their work. ¡The Alter Girls! use humor in their art to take some
sting out of serious subject matter. This installation promises no less as the
title implies: “Trash:
Our Kids!”The central element of their installation at
Reliant is comprised of re-used materials, the modular components of the piece
having been re-purposed and reconfigured several times, most recently as a
sculpture at the ArtCarMuseum’s
Texas Green show.
¡The
Alter Girls!
thank their sponsors, Keep Houston Beautiful, Modern Mannequin, ReliantCenter and the City of Houston for making this
art installation possible.
